Building a Cedar Deck
to Cover the Filter System
Cedar deck, page 2
My Filter System is all "below" ground. Actually the tops
of the of the filter totes are just above ground and also
just above pond water level.
This leaves a lot of ground near the pond that is in  dire
need of a cover.

So a Cedar Deck is born.

On May 1st I poured the concrete for the footings in
place. The next step, after the concrete had set,  was to
install the Trex composition posts and Presure Treated
Beams. I used some short pieces of Trex brand 4" x 4"
post material my oldest son, Clint,  brought me from one
of his jobs. The Trex is made of recycled plastic& wood
fibers. This composition will not rot and is great for
making some very short posts that are going to be in
contact with the cement. I used galvanized screws to
secure the galvanized post brackets to the posts and to
the P.T. 4" x 6" beams.
Here you can see Clint is installing the 2" x 6" P.T. floor
joists. This takes a lot of galvanized metal hangers and
every deck MUST be properly planed and built to the
building code of your local area. Mine requires that the
deck have concrete foundation and all the materials as
you see here. Also you see the mowing that I am not
getting done. LOL  LOL
Clint is placing the floor joists so there will be spaces to build the Trap Doors in
the deck so a door can be hinged up out of the way so the filters can be cleaned.
There will be a total of 4 T.D.'s. One each for the Vortex Filter, the 2 Mechanical
Filters and for the Pump House. Yes, Clint is working and I am playing boss.
The real BOSS, my better half, took this photo. She says this is typical.
Yea, sure.............!

Here is a photo of the completed deck framing. The Trap Door frames still need
to be constructed & that is my duty along with the deck surface. All the wood
that will be visible is Western Red Cedar.
I will NOT be putting a finish of ant kind on this deck UNTIL it has all faded to
the natural grey that cedar gets as that is the color I like. Natural.
And here is Clint
with his kitty,
Tigger.
