We arrived in Brisbane on March 4,2006. Spent the
night in a hotel, had a great sea-food dinner & flew
north to the Whitsunday Islands the next day.
We where met at the airport (30 kilometers from
the beach) by a special friend, Frank, who gave us
a great 2+ hour tour of the whole area. Later that
evening we enjoyed his company at a "dutch
treat" dinner.
Spent 3 nights at the Shingley Beach Resort that is
located just outside of the main tourist town of
Airlie Beach.
What a way to be introduced to the land of OZ.
Superb.
Above is just one of the views from Shingley Beach resort.
Our accommodations was an apartment sized unit with a
private deck area, separate bedroom, walk-in
closet, sitting room, dinning room, fully equipped kitchen
and washer & dryer in the large bathroom.
I had to take a photo of this sail boat just for our son, Clint. He
drives a '05 Chevy Silverado that is painted a very dark green.
Told him there is more than one way a Silverado can get you
around.
On the way out to the G.B.R., we passed this "little" beach
house. A few million US dollars could buy it if you want.
<------------------------ And a private beach too ! ! !
More coral and fishies.
We had a grand time.
The day was one to remember the rest of our
lives. We wish we had done this about 30
years ago. Or at least 20. Our bodies would
have been in better condition for the
swimming and snorkeling and such.
Of course if we had come on this trip 30 years
ago, we may never have returned to the
states, 'cept for a visit with family & friends..
3/6/06 & we are headed out to the Great Barrier reef.
Pulling into Hamilton Island to drop off & pick up passengers.
The where lots of snorkelers and divers out at the reef. The TAN colored areas are the reef & lots of it.

The coral in the center of the photo below is called "Brain Coral". Gee, I wonder why?
|
This white coral is growing on the outside window ledge on the glass sided boat. Beautiful.
|
These fish are called "Yellow Tails". Original, don't you think?
